A "Festa das vindimas" / "Harvest party"

Vindima é sem dúvida sinónimo de “festa”, mas também de grande responsabilidade e o culminar de um ano de trabalho.

É a época do ano da grande espectativa, muita alegria, haja o que houver. É também época de muita interajuda e trabalho de equipa entre aldeias, vizinhos e amigos que nos visitam sempre que estejam por perto.

Tecnicamente, vindima significa apanha da uva, e deve ocorrer num espaço de tempo preciso, bem-adaptado às condições de maturação dos cachos, tudo em função do clima e do estilo de vinho que se pretende obter.

É um trabalho que começa a ser preparado muitos meses antes do dia da vindima.

Em suma, para obter um bom vinho é condição obrigatória ter boas uvas, sãs e com características reconhecidas.

Tudo isto só se consegue com trabalho ao longo dos anos, que começa desde cedo com a escolha das castas a plantar, o local mais apropriado, bem como a caracterização e manutenção de um solo saudável.

Mas como será a vindima deste ano? O ano 2023 será a segunda vindima após o grande incendio do verão de 2022.

Com o devastador incêndio da Serra da Estrela todos tivemos perdas de floresta, vinhas e árvores de fruto, perdas de natureza, de paisagem, de qualidade do ar e água, do ecossistema de uma forma geral. Todos perderam, os da aldeia e os de fora da aldeia. Como um mal nunca vem só, seguidamente vieram as enxurradas.

Pé ante pé, lá nos fomos reerguendo, recuperando e regenerando a vinha num trabalho que vai durar mais uns pares de anos.

Ultrapassada a fase crítica de ano pós calamidade, e de início da regeneração da vinha, devemos agora dar especial atenção e dedicação ao ambiente envolvente, recuperando os bosques contíguos às vinhas e as árvores de fruta e de frutos silvestres.

Até este trabalho estar completado, iremos partilhar os nossos suculentos bagos de uvas com os javalis, que ao não encontrarem alimento nas serras, descem ao povoado em busca do alimento que não encontram.

Os javalis adoram as uvas, especialmente as mais maduras e docinhas. As suas populações estão a crescer de forma rápida pois não têm predadores diretos. Seriam os lobos, os seus predadores naturais? Fica a questão,cuja resposta depende do estudo populacional do javali de que se fala, mas ainda muito há para conhecer.

Ainda assim, com ou sem visitas dos javalis, temos uva em 2023 para fazer bons vinhos. Começámos a contagem decrescente para as vindimas. O grau e acidez estão bons e as uvas sãs e bem saborosas.

Esperam-se ainda algumas chuvas esta semana, o que em bom rigor, se forem seguidas de alguns dias sol, dita a experiência que contribuirão para o equilíbrio final entre grau e os compostos fenólicos das uvas, originando vinhos extraordinários.

A expectativa é de um bom ano em termos de qualidade!

Ficamos aguardar que do mosto de uva se origine um bom vinho e do vinho se façam bons momentos entre amigos e clientes e se reguem bem as refeições com o néctar.

"Harvest party"

Harvest is undoubtedly synonymous with the “party” season, but also with great responsibility and the culmination of a year of work.

It is the time of year for great expectations, a lot of joy no matter what. Also a lot of mutual help and teamwork between villages, neighbors and friends who visit us whenever they are close by.

Harvest technically means picking the grapes, it must take place in a precise period of time, well-adapted to the maturation conditions of the bunches, all depending on the climate, the teams and the style of wine that is intended to be made. It is a job that begins to be prepared many months before the day of the harvest.

In short, to obtain a good wine, it is mandatory to have good grapes. With recognized and healthy characteristics.

All of this can only be achieved with work over the years that starts early with the choice of varieties to plant, the most appropriate place as well as the characterization and maintenance of healthy soil.

But how will this year's harvest be? The year 2023?

With the devastating fire in Serra da Estrela, everyone suffered losses of forest, vineyards and fruit trees, loss of nature, landscape, air and water quality, and the ecosystem in general. Everyone lost, those from the village and those from outside the village. As an evil never comes alone, then came the rain floods.

But we are recovering, regenerating the vineyard in a work that will last another year. After the critical phase of the post-calamity year, and the beginning of the regeneration of the vineyard, we must now pay special attention and dedication to the surrounding environment, with the recovery of the forests adjacent to the vineyards and trees.

Until this work is completed, and who knows a few more years, we will share our juicy grape berries with the wild boars, who, when they cannot find food in the mountains, come down to the village in search of food that they cannot find in the mountains.

Wild boars love grapes. Especially the most mature and sweet ones. Their populations are growing rapidly as they have no direct predators. Could it be wolves, their natural predators? The question remains about the population study of wild boar that is being discussed, but there is still much to know.

Still, with or without wild boar visits, we have grapes in 2023 to make good wines.

We have started the countdown to the harvest. The degree and acidity are good and the grapes are healthy and very tasty. Some rain is still expected this week, which strictly speaking, if followed by a few sunny days dictates the experience that extraordinary wines give. Contributing to the balance between grade and the phenolic compounds of the berries.

The expectation is for a good year in terms of quality!
